In case you missed it, BTS dropped a new album over the weekend called Map of the Soul: Persona. But like, you probably didn’t miss it, because the album includes a Halsey collab, “Boy With Luv,” that’s already basically breaking the internet. The music video has already gained over 147 million views in just two days. That number will probably have quadrupled by the time you’ve finished reading this sentence. Okay, I’m definitely exaggerating, but “Boy With Luv” DID break a YouTube record for the fastest video to hit 100 million views. It’s kind of a very big deal.
BTS is a K-pop group, so with the exception of a few lines, “Boy With Luv” is primarily sung in Korean. Of course, it’s a super catchy, upbeat bop, so you honestly don’t need to understand the lyrics to enjoy it. But, if you’re going to stan, you might as well do it right and take a deep dive into the song, you know? Here’s what the lyrics of “Boy With Love” mean when they’re translated into English, so you can confidently sing more than just the parts where Halsey sings “oh my, my, my” and “I want something stronger.”
Jimin is singing, “I’m curious about everything, how’s your day? Oh, tell me. What makes you happy?”
V sings, “Your every picture / I wanna have it under my pillow, oh, oh bae.” Then, Jin sings “Come be my teacher / Teach me everything about you / Your one, your two.”
Jungkook and Jimin sing “Listen my my baby / I’m flying high in the sky / With the two wings you gave me back then / Now, it’s so high up here / I want you tuned into my eyes / Yeah, you making me a boy with love.”
Halsey sings “Oh my, my, my / oh my, my, my / I’ve waited all my life.” Then, Jungkook and Jimin hop in and sing “I want to be with you for everything.” Halsey comes back and is like, “Oh my, my, my, oh my, my, my / Looking for something right.” Jungkook and Jimin come back with “Now, I kinda get it.”
Li’l Halsey Solo
Do I even need to explain this part? You get it. Halsey sings “I want something stronger / Than a moment, than a moment, love / I have waited longer / For a boy with, for a boy with love.”
Suga rapping is obviously one of the best parts of the song, and it’s totally filled with lyrics that you would probably set as your away message if we were still rocking AIM. “From the moment I met you, my life was all you / You’re the star that turns ordinaries into extraordinaries / One after another, everything is special / The things you’re interested in, the way you walk or talk, and every little trivial habit of yours.”
This part is J-Hope singing with Jungkook popping in with some ad-libs. (Mostly “No way” and “Oh no!”) J-Hope’s verse translates to, “Everyone says that I used to be so little and now I became a hero / I say that something like destiny was never my thing / World peace / A great order / I’m just gonna keep you safe.”
Then comes another pre-chorus, chorus, and Halsey post-chorus, which you should have absolutely mastered by now.
Okay, so, this is the last part of the song with new lyrics for you to learn. It’s RM and Halsey, and he’s singing “I’ll tell you frankly / Sometimes I was a little stuck up / Elevated Sky, expanded halls / Sometimes I prayed let me run away / But your pain is my pain / When I realized that, I vowed to myself / With the wings of Icarus you gave me / Not towards the sun, but towards you / Let me fly.”
And there you have it! Now, I guess you can rewatch the video and try to pick up that choreography? LOL, kidding. Kind of.
